Lama d’Antico is a remarkable example of the Apulian cave civilizations; although it was populated since the prehistoric period, in the Middle Ages it had the highest development.

Carved out on both sides of the ravine, surrounded by olive groves and carrob trees, the rock settlement consists of several rupestrian caves, used as houses, barns, or work shops and stores where agricultural products were processed.

Rock churches were places of prayer and worship and you can visit three of them: church of Lama d’Antico, San Lorenzo and San Giovanni.
Suggestive frescoes with bright colours dating back to the 13th century are still preserved and give evidence to the mixture of both Latin and Oriental culture in Puglia.

A step back in time nestling in a completely natural scenery!
