Guided tour in Conversano: town of art, history and culture

Meet the guide at Piazza Castello, also known as Largo di Corte, the highest point of the hill in a dominant position on the surrounding area.
We’ll walk around the exterior of the Castle and take a look at the 4 existing Towers, including the famous cylindrical Renaissance Tower, nowadays symbol of Conversano. Learning about the vicissitudes of the Earls of Conversano.

Visit of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, an interesting example of Apulian Romanesque style, which just preserves the 14th century facade.
Strolling along the medieval alleys we’ll reach the Church of San Cosma and Damiano, a masterpiece of Neapolitan Baroque, almost completely painted by Finoglio, a 17th century renowned artist.
In the old town you could admire some original entrance gates and megalithic walls dating back to the 5th century B.C.
A stop in front of the Monastery of San Benedetto will be the occasion to learn about the history of the Abbesses with miter and then the tour will end in Largo di Corte.

Duration of the tour: about 1 hour and 30 minutes
